us taxes
And now its time for my (almost) daily gripe about the homeland.
One notion, that my eurofriends find incomprehensible, is that american citizens have to file u.s. taxes, even when their entire income and entire possessions exist outside of the u.s.
“Filing” taxes is not necessarily paying for them. As far as I can tell, if a u.s. citizen earns more than a certain amount, then, yes, u.s. nationals pay u.s. tax on income earned and spent overseas. With the dollar so cheap now, the threshold above which u.s. taxes are due, is becoming lower and lower.
Its even more difficult to grasp as a concept when one reflects on one of the key tenets of the current administration, “tax relief”. i don’t think that that term could have been better formulated. while those creeps have been busy relieving themselves (ok ok, “of taxes”) they’ve been neglecting overseas u.s. citizens who get nothing from those taxes paid.
