… had a hankering for something more substantial than my steady diet of french fries and waffles, and thus went out on sunday looking for the definitive home-cooked Flemish meal.  I was recommended to go to the Nostalgie and I was not disappointed.  The website and the menu are only in Dutch (Think Local!).  You can be sure I was the only tourist in that restaurant that night, total immersion.  

I ended up getting a steak met peperroomsaus (pepper cream sauce) and fries.  ”It would take a while to prepare”, warned the staff, and I gleefully accepted, because sometimes, slow-food is exactly what the doctor ordered.  Unfortunately I only thought of photographing after the meal was mostly eaten.  So, you’ll have to trust me that it was delicious both for the eye and for the stomach, along with everything in between.  Do you spy that basket of home-made french fries in the background?  Its great getting well prepared beef in such copious quantities for modest amounts of euros.  A basket of frietjes and a salad completed this culinary experience.  Oh Nostalgie, can’t you please open up a second restaurant in Zurich?
